A Heavenly Ad
Chris Rankin
Dec 18, 2005
Ever see an ad for a movie that you really wanted to see. And then when you see it the movie was horrible. 2000 years ago there was a spectacular ad for an event. Shepherds were out relaxing after dinner enjoying the night. Then an angel shows up with a brilliant light. They became scarred, and the angel tells them to not have fear and about Jesus beings born. Why were they told not to have fear? They could not learn if they were in fear. Then as this is happenings a heavenly choir breaks out in song. That was an advertisement of what was to come. What was the ad from heaven trying to say?
Luke 2
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
What are the key elements that the angels were trying to say?
Christmas is about releasing our fears. The angels said to sheppherds not to have fears. One of the greatest things that seperates us from God and the life he wants us to live is fear.
1 Peter 5
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.Christmas is about Good news. We have bad news all around us all the time. The angel said he came to bring good new.
Gal 4
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. The good news is that God cares for each and every one of us enough to want to adopt us.
It is about connecting And reconnecting with God. We need to have more than head knowledge of Jesus. It is about forgiving of sins. When our sins are removed we can have peace. And that is what the Angels were speaking of. Peace on Earth. Who do you need to forgive so you can have peace?
